Certification of natural forest

Asia: Southern and South-Eastern

A preliminary assessment carried out by experts from The Nature Conservancy together with concession staff in September 2002, in a forest concession in the upper watershed of the Mahakam river, East Kalimantan province, Indonesia. The area has been identified by The Nature Conservancy as of critical importance to the conservation of lowland dipterocarp forest. The Nature Conservancy views sustainable forest management as the most suitable tool for conserving this area. This work was a collaboration with the concessionaire to help them obtain FSC certification.
