Discussion Groups

Discussion GroupsDiscussion Groups (DGs) were proposed by the Network as a potential means of discussing priority issues. Any live DGs are open to the general public and coordinated by a Network Participant chosen by the Steering Group for their special expertise in the subject matter.

There are currently no online discussions taking place on the Discussion Pages; all of the previously live DGs have now been archived although you may still view and/or comment on the discussion topics identified by going to the Comment & Consultation section of the Resource Centre.

You don’t have to be logged in to read any live discussions, but if you want to post comments, you must register your details on the website, and log in once you are registered. This is purely to protect the website from automatic mail and “spam”. If you are not registered as a Participant, you are welcome to register as a Visitor, which will allow you to post your comments. Your name will be visible to other individuals involved in the discussion, but no personal details are accessible. If you need to get in touch with anyone directly about comments posted in this section, please email the Network Secretariat with your request, and don’t put email addresses on the boards (to protect yourself from unsolicited emails).

Discussion Topics:

Each Discussion has a number of key Topics to discuss. These appear under the “Topics” heading when you choose a Discussion page to join. The Topics were proposed initially by the coordinator, and the proposer’s name appears next to the Topic. Whilst you are free to open up a new Topic for discussion, please consider carefully whether your ideas fit into the existing Topic headings. If in doubt, you can ask the Coordinator or the Secretariat. We want to keep the Discussions as open as possible, but if Topics proliferate it will be difficult for the Coordinator to keep track and it will be harder to report progress in the discussions.

Discussion Pages Etiquette:

It should normally be easy to see what comment you are responding to. However, if you are involved in a long discussion it can help to copy into your comment a short section of the post to which you are replying.

Please keep all your comments polite. If you find a comment offensive, please report it to the Coordinator or the Secretariat. We will remove offensive or abusive comments. If the Coordinator feels that a new Topic is inappropriate, or that discussion is drifting too far from the subject, or that the discussion should be conducted under a different Topic heading, he may lock a particular Topic so that no further posts can be made, and ask participants to post further comments under a different heading.
