Vacancy: ALS Junior Quality Officer

The High Conservation Value (HCV) Resource Network (HCVRN) is an umbrella organisation that oversees the development and practical implementation of the HCV approach. It is a member-based organisation composed of NGOs, commodity producers, companies, certification schemes and conservation organisations who care about protecting outstanding environmental and social values in agriculture and forestry. 

The HCVRN is looking for an experienced professional who is fluent in Spanish to support our quality assurance work. This is an exciting opportunity to work with major international stakeholders including sustainability standard schemes, NGOs, and agricultural & forestry production companies, and to learn about the application of the High Conservation Value concept in agriculture and forestry. 

Main responsibilities 

  • Perform as an in-house Quality Panel member, delivering primary and/or secondary report evaluations when needed.
  • Coordinate, consolidate and provide quality control for internal and external Quality Panel report evaluations.
  • Help process licensed assessors’ appeals.
  • Perform ALS ‘initial checks’.
  • Help process licence applications and Quality Panel applications
  • Provide support with ALS communications, such as preparing content for the ALS newsletter, managing Whatsapp licensed assessor groups and preparing social media content.
  • Participate in ALS planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting and contribute to business development activities and monitoring of progress against objectives.
  • Propose and contribute to ALS procedures and guidance to improve the ALS whenever necessary.
  • Support the HCV Assessor Licensing Scheme (ALS) Quality Manager with the day-to-day management of the ALS.
  • Participate in designing and delivering ALS-related training for licensed assessors, Quality Panel members, training providers, certification bodies, auditors and commodity growers.
  • Occasionally provide technical insights for HCV-related processes involving the ALS.


  • Fluency in English and Spanish;
  • Tertiary level (masters or equivalent) qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. natural resources management, conservation, agriculture, forestry or social sciences);
  • Experience and/or knowledge related to sustainability standards, auditing, and certification, in the context of natural resource management (forestry, agriculture, fisheries, REDD+);
  • Previous experience or knowledge of concepts such as the High Conservation Value (HCV) Approach, High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) and Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC);
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a global team that is connected remotely;
  • Excellent project management skills including excellent time-management, problem-solving and organisational abilities;
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, including presentation skills;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and team working skills, as well as proven ability to operate in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Professional discretion in handling confidential information;
  • Excellent understanding of environmental and social sustainability issues affecting the forestry and agricultural commodities sectors.


  • Experience in attending international conferences and meetings, including giving presentations;
  • Experience with GIS and mapping tools;
  • Experience in consultation and working with various stakeholders including large companies, small and medium enterprises, NGOs, financing institutions, government agencies, smallholders and local communities;
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages, in addition to English and Spanish: Bahasa Indonesia, French, or Portuguese.
  • Work experience in Latin America in the fields of sustainability, certification, and auditing.


This role is a 4 month part-time (3 days per week) position. This position is subject to budget confirmation and will report to the ALS Quality Manager. 


Our company is legally registered in the UK but our team is based globally. This position is open to international applicants willing to carry out their work from home. 


Range from £5,000 - £5,330 commensurate with experience.
