The Forest Integrity Assessment- A tool for HCV and biodiversity management within FSC's standards and procedures

In 2025, a WWF-commissioned review confirmed FIA’s importance for responsible forest management and identified opportunities for broader use within the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) system. Already referenced in FSC guidance, FIA helps certificate holders meet biodiversity and HCV management requirements. This brief outlines how FIA operates, its role in HCV management, and its support for forest managers across SLIMF, plantations, natural and semi-natural forests, FSC Verified Impact, and the FSC Remedy Framework.
