We work to protect nature and support local people where it matters most.

High Conservation Values (HCVs) are biological, ecological, social, or cultural values of outstanding significance or critical importance.

Aligned with global sustainability goals, our practical, field-based approach is used around the world to identify and safeguard these values on the ground - creating lasting impact for nature, communities, and future generations.

Globally, many areas designated for development are home to indigenous peoples and local communities, rare, threatened or endangered species, vital resources, and ecosystems such as forests.

Our Work

Our work helps conserve nature and benefit people where commodities are produced, linking local actions with global sustainability targets.

1

Providing solutions

We help users of the HCV Approach identify, manage, and monitor High Conservation Values (HCVs) in current or potential future development sites. Our tools are globally applicable, work across a wide range of scales (landscapes or jurisdictions, farms, plantations, management units, smallholdings), ecosystems (from forests to grasslands and aquatic systems) and productive systems (agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, other).

2

Bringing users together

Our Network brings together influential global stakeholders including NGOs, producers, supply chain companies, technical service providers and voluntary sustainability standards. Through knowledge exchange and collaboration our Members act as stewards of our methodology, and ensure it is robustly applied globally.

3

Building resilient futures

Protecting 30% of the planet by 2030 requires balancing social, economic, and environmental agendas. Our unique methodology supports planning for more sustainable future by identifying High Conservation Values that may be at risk from land-use change, guiding responsible development, defining what protection could mean in those contexts, and motivating producers of all scales to become drivers of local actions for protecting nature and livelihoods.

Our Mission as a network is to provide practical tools to conserve nature and benefit people, linking local actions with global sustainability targets.

We welcome the participation of organisations that share our vision and mission to protect and enhance High ConservationValues and the vital services they provide for people and nature. By collaborating with the Network, your organisation can contribute to safeguarding HCVs while gaining valuable insights and connections that support your sustainability goals.

We are seeking collaborative partners to help expand and enhance our work, as well as talented professionals who can join the growing Secretariat team, and for professionals who can contribute to the credible identification of High Conservation Values globally.

Join us in securing the world’s HCVs and shaping a sustainable future.
